Activated carbon replacement in Vilby

In my experience, the interval between replacing Vilbyn activated carbon is a year or more. About 7-8dl of carbon is needed. The annual cost is a few euros. I personally pay about 4€ per year for one Vilbyn carbon.

Even if you don't change the carbon between each cultivation, it's still a good idea to clean the activated carbon filter from time to time. I always clean the filter between cultivations. When the Vilby is empty, I unplug the power cord and pour the carbon into a container or bag. A good way is to close the bag around the filter so the carbon goes directly into the bag, or a salad bowl or similar is perfect. The Vilby is light, so pouring is possible without any major problems.

When the activated carbon filter is empty, I check the filter cloth at the bottom of the filter and vacuum it if necessary. The cloth collects dust from the room air, which greatly slows down the airflow. At the same time, I check and clean the fan and the entire interior of the filter.

After cleaning, I put the cloth back on the bottom of the filter. At this point, it's worth being careful that the cloth goes in correctly. Otherwise, the carbon won't stay in the filter but will fall through the lamp into the Vilby.

While the cloth is in place, I pour new or old carbon back in. The filter doesn't have to be completely flush. Sometimes I leave the carbon out altogether if there is no need to remove odors. It's still worth keeping the cloth in place if the plant needs darkness. Old carbon can be put in the energy waste after use.
