LST – Gentle plant guidance

In a small grow space, controlled plant growth is the key to success. When space and light availability are limited, plants need little guidance to grow optimally. Low Stress Training , or LST, offers a subtle and effective method for exactly this purpose.
In LST, the plant is not cut or damaged unnecessarily, but the branches are bent and lightly tied in the desired direction. This allows more light to reach all parts of the plant and keeps growth low and controlled. The end result is a strong, vigorous plant that makes the most of the growing space and light.
Why LST?
-
Even light distribution : When the branches are directed horizontally, the entire plant benefits from the light.
-
Controlled plant shape : The plant stays low and wide, making it perfect for cabinet growing.
-
Efficient crop formation : More branches means more flower points and a more consistent harvest.
-
Less stress for the plant : The plant is allowed to grow naturally, but with gentle guidance.
How LST is implemented
LST is started when the plant has grown a few layers of leaves – usually at 3–5 weeks of age. Using soft plant ties, the branches are gently bent horizontally and secured to the edges of the pot or to the growing medium with small hooks. As the plant grows, new shoots can be directed as needed, keeping the whole open and even.
The most important thing is to proceed slowly and with observation – respecting the rhythm of the plant.
Vilby and LST – the perfect combination
In Vilby cabinets, the cultivation method usually combines one early topping and LST. When the plant is toppled once, it forms 4–5 pairs of branches, or 8–10 branches, which are ready to be trained.
At Vilby, the branches are first tied low just above the LST net. The growth of the branches is then directed over the net, either clockwise or counterclockwise, using the structure of the net. This technique allows for beautifully controlled, wide and low growth, which fits perfectly with Vilby's design philosophy: maximum efficiency in a small space, while respecting the natural characteristics of the plant.
Summary
Low Stress Training is much more than just a growing technique. It is a way to grow plants calmly and wisely, making the most of space and light.
When you gently guide the plant and give it space to grow, you will be rewarded with a vibrant and bountiful harvest – without unnecessary haste or harshness.
